6th Annual Gateway Trail Run, a Big Success
The Gateway Trail 5K/10 Mile and Fun Run on Saturday March 7, 2015 was a wonderful success with 150 participants. Our largest amount of runners ever! This was our 6th annual run and what a beautiful sunny day! Also, this is the first time that there has been a 10 mile run, yea and a great big thanks to all the volunteers and runners!
Please see our Face Book page for photos!
This is the first year that we have had long enough trail to offer a 10 Mile Run. The Foote trail is almost finished to Galilee Church Road and will be in the very near future. This is where the 10 Mile Run took place. The 5K was on the Railtrail, the Plateau, and the Cardio Trail. The Fun Run was just a short run for kids on the rail loop trail. All Fun Run folks received a medal and t shirt. We have beautiful rail spike trophies this year that are being made locally. Since we have 1/4 of a mile of trail on the old rail bed and since the Gateway is part of "Rails to Trails" for North Carolina, we thought it appropriate to have these new spike trophies made for our winners this year. Congratulations to all the runners for participating and for all the winners! Please plan to come back in 2016, same place, lst Saturday in March.
