Kings Mountain Gateway Trail

The Kings Mountain Gateway Trail is a greenway designed to connect the City of Kings Mountain to Crowders Mountain State Park, Kings Mountain State Park, Kings Mountain National Military Park, the Overmountain Victory Trail and the Appalachian Trail. This 8 to 10 mile greenway will consist of paved trail, soft-packed gravel trail and single-track mountain biking trails.  The trail will provide recreational opportunities to millions of people in our region, enhance economic development for our community, and provide a venue for citizens to link to one another and the rich history of our region.

The trail will preserve the natural beauty of Kings Mountain and provide a place for nature exploration, education in science and history and a venue for community events and celebrations of family. The Kings Mountain Gateway Trail will provide a hiking and biking experience unparalleled in our region. Now open!

The trial is open from dawn to dusk for your enjoyment.  Hikers and bikers welcome!  Please be sure to pick up after your dog!  Three more miles of trail were added in 2011 & extend south to the bridge over hwy. I-85.  Visitation to the trail the first year opened, 2009 to 2010 was 60,000.  The second year, 2010 to 2011 was over 90,000.  As you can see, the trail is very popular!

Kings Mountain Gateway 5K, 10K, Run, Walk, & Fun Run April 28, 2012

The 3rd fundraiser for the trail, the Gateway 5K 10K Run Walk & Fun Run will take place on Saturday, April 28 at 8 a.m. at the trailhead at 807 South Battleground Ave., Kings Mountain.  For more information call 704 739-4755.  To sign up for the race go to www.setupevents.com.  This is our first 10K!!!  The trail is some asphalt and some gravel, 10' wide.  Most of the 10K will take place on the new 3 mile trail that is gravel.  New Map (click here)

The Kings Mountain Family YMCA will sponsor "Healthy Kids Day" with activities at the trailhead on April 28 along with the 5K 10K Run.
